Authorities in Belize are currently responding to a developing aviation emergency following the reported hijacking of a Tropic Air passenger aircraft. The plane, which departed from Corozal Municipal Airport earlier today, was carrying a number of U.S. nationals and is now being tracked as it circles above Belize City Municipal Airport.
According to initial reports, the aircraft remains airborne, and law enforcement officials are closely monitoring its movements. Preparations are underway at both Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport and Belize City Municipal Airport in anticipation of a potential landing. Emergency personnel have been placed on standby at multiple locations.
At this time, the motive behind the hijacking has not been determined. There has been no confirmation of the hijackers’ identities or demands. However, unofficial sources indicate that two passengers onboard may have sustained injuries. These reports have not yet been verified by authorities.
As a precautionary measure, all commercial and local flights throughout the region have been suspended. The San Pedro Municipal Airport has confirmed that all local flights are grounded until an official all-clear is issued by aviation authorities.
