The Chocolate Festival of Belize will go ahead as originally planned, despite an earlier cancellation prompted by concerns over a town-organized concert. The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) had initially called off the event, fearing that the town would struggle to manage two major events over the same weekend.
However, following a meeting between area representative Dr. Osmond Martinez and Punta Gorda Mayor Carlos Galvez, both parties reached a compromise, allowing both the Chocolate Festival and the concert to take place during the weekend of May 16th. The festival will span three days, with the concert now slated for May 17th.
Dr. Martinez reassured the public that measures will be put in place to mitigate any potential conflicts between the events, although specifics of these plans have yet to be disclosed. One area of particular concern was the festival’s gala, which funds many of the festival’s activities.
The BTIA issued a statement emphasizing the significance of the festival, noting its role in promoting sustainable tourism and driving economic growth in the region. Despite the overlap with the concert, organizers are committed to delivering an authentic and memorable experience for all attendees.
